Alistair is a partner at SR Energy responsible for driving SolarReserve’s continued growth through initiating and developing projects and business opportunities across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and India.
While at SolarReserve Alistair’s efforts resulted in the development of a portfolio of 7000 megawatts (MW) across the EMEA region ranging from utility scale solar to smaller scale urban solar farm power projects. He led the development and financing of three solar PV projects now in full operation in South Africa: the Lesedi (75MW), Letsatsi (75MW) and Jasper (96MW) projects. In addition, Alistair led development of the Redstone 100 MW Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) project awarded preferred bidder status in round 3 of the South African REIPPP programme. In Round 4.5 of the South African REIPPP programme, Alistair was responsible for the submission of 6 projects with a total investment value of $4.30bn.
Alistair has 20 years of international power industry experience in business development, construction and project financing. His extensive expertise spans projects covering multiple technologies including natural gas, oil-fired, wind energy, biomass and solar energy projects.
Alistair joined SolarReserve from Invenergy, one of the largest privately owned renewable energy businesses in the world, where he was Vice President for Europe. Alistair’s prior roles include Vice President for Europe with Insight Energy and Director for Western Europe with Rolls-Royce Power Ventures.
In 2001, Alistair completed an intensive Accelerated Development Program at the London Business School. Alistair gained a Rolls-Royce scholarship for his university studies where he achieved a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, with Honors, from the University of Wales, Cardiff.
Karl van Eck
Karl is a partner at SR Energy and manages the full financial function for the EMEA region and regulates SolarReserve’s compliance, ethical integrity, taxation, and BEE responsibilities. Karl was also instrumental in arranging the Prescient facility agreement which controls a R220m renewable energy fund.
Karl joined SolarReserve from Johnson Controls Group SA, where he was Finance Director and Area General Manager for their Energy Africa division. He was instrumental in securing the 2010 Eskom Energy Efficiency Award for commercial building space. The award recognises a company’s exceptional effort in the efficient use of energy throughout their business activities. While at Johnson Controls Karl was also involved with the successful bid of the Touwsrivier 50MW Concentrating Photovoltaics (CPV) project as part of the South African Department of Energy Round 1 REIPPP Programme.
Prior roles include CFO at Johannesburg City Parks, and Co-Founder and Commercial Services Director of MergeGro Group, a financial services company that focused on creating products and services for the needs of the emerging market.
Through his role with SolarReserve, Karl is a director of three power companies with an asset base of over R6bn.
Karl studied for his two BCompt degrees, in Advanced Taxation and Accounting Science, at the University of South Africa before completing his MBA in 2000 at Henley Management School in the UK.
Ross is a partner at SR Energy responsible for the financing function of all development projects including debt and equity raising, tax and financial modelling.
Prior to his current position he was a senior manager at the 96MW Jasper Power Project and responsible for financial and accounting requirements of the project reporting to the CEO and the board. Before joining SolarReserve he was a corporate finance analyst at EY involved in valuations, business modelling and due diligence across various industries with a focus on renewable energy.
He is skilled in financial modelling, early/late stage project evaluation, cash flow analysis, debt and equity structuring and raising, tax and accounting.
He qualified as a Chartered Account (CA(SA)) after having completed his articles at EY and his honours degree in accounting from the University of Witwatersrand. He is also a CFA Charterholder.
Project Executive Manager
Jason has been developing, constructing and operating renewable energy projects for the past ten years. He has been part of SolarReserve South Africa since Jasper financial close in June 2013, first as Project Manager during the construction of the plant following which he took over the role as Project Executive Manager for the Operations & Maintenance phase of the project in February 2015. He has a broad range of experience having worked on a variety of multi-faceted projects in South Africa, United Kingdom, Middle East and Seychelles. His experience spans over the entire life-cycle of projects across a range of different sectors including large scale PV solar projects; infrastructure projects including project managing the construction of the King Shaka International airport terminal building; traditional build projects including residential, commercial and industrial; retail shop fit-out; new store construction and refurbishment.Jason received his National Higher diploma in Construction Management from the Cape Town Peninsula Technicon in 1999 and a Bachelor Technology degree in Quantity Surveying in 2000.
Economic Development Manager
Masego joined SolarReserve South Africa at the financial close of Jasper and has been the projects Economic Development Manager since. She continuously develops and implements the Enterprise & Socio-Economic Development strategy for the Jasper Power Company within the Renewable Energy sector. She previously worked on major infrastructure bids as part of the Murray & Roberts Concessions team, with a key focus on Public Private Partnerships (PPP’s)/Project Finance bids from the Expression of Interest stage to final project award.
Her core skills include project management, marketing, finance, insurance and risk management. She holds an MBA from Alba Graduate Business School in Athens Greece, a Postgraduate Diploma in Investment & Portfolio Management from University of Johannesburg and a BCom degree from Wits University.
Natalie joined SolarReserve South Africa in mid 2017 and is responsible for the finance function of the Jasper Power Company. She studied at the University of Cape Town, UNISA and the University of Johannesburg, obtaining a BCom in Financial Accounting, a Post Graduate Diploma in Tax Law, a Post Graduate Diploma in Accounting Sciences and a Post Graduate Diploma in International Tax.
Natalie is a Chartered Accountant, having completed her articles in both the BDO Cape Town and Johannesburg offices. Prior to joining the Jasper team, she was an international tax consultant at PwC.
Mathapelo joined Jasper Power Company at the end of 2017 and has 2 years’ experience in Provincial Government (Department of Economic Development and Tourism) as Assistant Director for Local Economic Development responsible for Pixley Ka Seme District and 5 years’ experience in Local Government (Tsantsabane Local Municipality) as Local Economic Development Officer.
She is currently studying towards her Honors degree in Economics with the University of South Africa (UNISA) and has a BCom Economics degree from the University of the Free State. Other qualifications include a National Certificate in Local Economic Development (NQF4) and N6 Certificate in Marketing Management.
Owner’s Site Representative
Johann Hansen joined SolarReserve South Africa in mid 2019 as an Owner’s Site Representative based in Postmasburg, Northern Cape. He has extensive experience in live work and switching, having previously worked at Eskom for 10 years. During his time at Eskom he was also appointed as a Live Work PIC (Person in Charge) performing maintenance on rural and urban lines energized without losing availability.In 2012 he performed his trade in electrical works and qualified under the jurisdiction of the Manpower Training Act, 1981 (Regulation 16) as an Electrician. As an electrician Johann was previously employed by Ingeteam South Africa as an Electrical Foreman in 2015, and 3 years later became Site Manager for Jasper Power, overseeing all daily activities, compiling reports, maintenance, managing staff of 20 employees and performing switching on 22kV up to 132kV substations.
Nomfundo joined SolarReserve South Africa at the end of 2018. She is responsible for managing office functions including inventory and supplier management, bookkeeping, IT contractor co-ordination, travel arrangements, scheduling and general support.She previously worked at the Fairmont Zimbali Hotel as a Royal Assistant Agent, at the Oyster Box hotel as Head Concierge and Emvelo Holdings as an Office Coordinator.
She has a certificate in Public Relations Management from the University of Johannesburg.
