Karl van Eck

Karl is a partner at SR Energy and manages the full financial function for the EMEA region and regulates SolarReserve’s compliance, ethical integrity, taxation, and BEE responsibilities. Karl was also instrumental in arranging the Prescient facility agreement which controls a R220m renewable energy fund.

Karl joined SolarReserve from Johnson Controls Group SA, where he was Finance Director and Area General Manager for their Energy Africa division. He was instrumental in securing the 2010 Eskom Energy Efficiency Award for commercial building space. The award recognises a company’s exceptional effort in the efficient use of energy throughout their business activities. While at Johnson Controls Karl was also involved with the successful bid of the Touwsrivier 50MW Concentrating Photovoltaics (CPV) project as part of the South African Department of Energy Round 1 REIPPP Programme.

Prior roles include CFO at Johannesburg City Parks, and Co-Founder and Commercial Services Director of MergeGro Group, a financial services company that focused on creating products and services for the needs of the emerging market.

Through his role with SolarReserve, Karl is a director of three power companies with an asset base of over R6bn.

Karl studied for his two BCompt degrees, in Advanced Taxation and Accounting Science, at the University of South Africa before completing his MBA in 2000 at Henley Management School in the UK.
